Make Your Own Movie: Learn from a Professional Filmmaker
Have you ever wanted to make your own movie? As a professional filmmaker, screenwriter, actor, published author, and educator, I'll guide students through the complete process of creating their own short film—from the initial idea all the way to a finished movie. Whether you're interested in directing, writing, acting, editing, cinematography, special effects, film festivals, or simply love movies, this experience provides a practical introduction to independent filmmaking. Students are encouraged to bring their questions about any aspect of the filmmaking process and receive guidance from someone actively working in the industry. Topics may include: • Developing a movie idea • Writing a screenplay • Planning and organizing a production • Directing actors • Camera basics and visual storytelling • Recording sound • Editing and post-production • Practical effects and low-budget filmmaking techniques • Film festivals and sharing your finished work • Building a creative career in film Students are welcome to send scripts, story ideas, outlines, footage, rough cuts, or completed films at least 24 hours before the session for review and discussion. Sessions can be tailored to the student's specific interests, projects, and goals. No prior filmmaking experience is required. Students are welcome whether they have already begun making videos or are completely new to filmmaking. This experience is ideal for middle school and high school students who love movies, storytelling, creativity, and hands-on artistic projects. While a single session can provide valuable guidance, many students choose to book multiple sessions over time while developing a project. This allows us to work together through the entire filmmaking process—from the first idea and script, through production and editing, all the way to a completed film. Ongoing sessions also provide opportunities for personalized feedback at every stage of the project. My goal is to help students discover that filmmaking is not something reserved for Hollywood—it is something they can start doing right now with the tools they already have.
