Let's Make Polymer Clay Miniatures: Cookies!

Join Mx. Summer and other miniature-lovers in this one-time, 50-minute class where we will make cookies from polymer clay! Mx. Summer will guide everyone, step-by-step, through how to make different kinds of cookies and decorations! Please refer to the “Learner Supply List” below for everything we will need. If you have ANY questions, please reach out to me so I can help clarify! General Class Outline: · Hellos/introductions: Learners may share a type of cookie they most want to learn how to make, and I will make note of these. We’ll also do a quick “equipment check.” (~5m) · Shaping, Texturing, & Shading Our Cookies: First, we will decide which kind(s) of cookies we want to make and how many. We will shape and texture our “dough” and, if needed, shade with pastels. (~15m) · Then, we usually start by creating an "oreo" and a fortune cookie, following with some more traditional cookies: Peanut butter (with “fork” marks), Chocolate chip, Rainbow chip, etc.! At this point, I like to take student requests and tailor the rest of the class to those. For example, if everyone has liquid clay, we can talk about possible toppings and things we can do with it! (~25m) · Near the end of class, we’ll show off our creations, (get hungry, if we weren’t already) and I’ll answer any final questions learners might have. Classroom Expectations: I don’t have a big list of rules for conduct in my classroom. Ideally, we all want to learn and work together to make that happen. Mainly, I ask for two things: 1) Be respectful to the teacher and other classmates; and 2) Have fun! Learner Supply List: ESSENTIALS: 1. Polymer Clay: Whatever brand you prefer (Sculpey, Fimo, etc.). I use and recommend Sculpey Premo because of its high quality—however, Sculpey Souffle is also high-quality but is softer, so your learner might find it easier to work with. · Colors I Recommend: As many colors as possible! A chocolate brown and a tan/”dough” color (I use Sculpey’s “Ecru”) are the two colors I use the most when making cookies. Other colors depend on what toppings/decorations you want. 2. An Old Toothbrush (for texturing; foil can work as well) 3. Sculpting tools: A basic set is fine! This one is $9 and would be more than enough: https://a.co/d/46frTit 4. 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and Paper Towels—I like to cut mine into (4) squares to conserve a bit :) OR Baby Wipes 5. Adequate working space 6. Cookie Sheet, Parchment Paper or Foil, & An Oven to bake our creations after class! OPTIONAL, BUT RECOMMENDED: · Glaze for after baking
