Hello, I'm Mx. Summer.
Hi! My name is Mx. Summer (they/them) and I can’t wait to meet you or your learner(s)! I have several years of teaching experience, in both online and brick-and-mortar classrooms, and with students of all ages. The other platform I mainly teach on is Outschool, where I've led over 1200 hours of classes and clubs to over 1000 learners! My personal teaching philosophy revolves around student-directed learning and creative expression. I want to help create lifetime learners! With each student, I hope to instill a love of learning and, at the same time, encourage self-confidence and critical thinking. With each class, I strive to create a safe, comfortable space for every learner and ensure an affirming environment for everyone, especially LGBTQIAP2S+ and neurodivergent students. My Credentials: I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Individualized Studies from Goddard College. I mostly focused on anthropology and English—exploring areas like child development and psychology, gender and sexuality studies, poetry studies, and ethnobotany. I also have a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University. I focused a lot on school counseling, neurodivergence (esp. autism and ADHD), and disability studies. Finally, I also have an IDELT (International Diploma of English Language Teaching), with an emphasis in Teaching Young Learners, from BridgeTEFL. A few of my favorite things include: Admiring and creating miniature art; LGBTQIAP2S+ culture and history; psychology; the English language (especially poetry); anthropology (especially ethnobotany); social impact/human rights issues; and music (especially singing and musical theatre). When I’m not teaching, I’m usually reading, listening to music, or playing games with my partner, our dog, and two cats. <3
