Learn to Scat! A supportive group workshop
Let's explore the wonderful world of scatting! Jazz is a wonderful, quintessentially American idiom of freedom, expression, and joy. Rooted in the co-inspiration of dances, rhythms, and sounds from many places and manifested in African American communities across the country, Jazz offers a space to explore and spontaneously compose. In this workshop, we will learn the improvisational Vocal Jazz technique of scatting from a holistic and attuned perspective. We will consider where inspiration to scat developed, important principles to consider in one's spontaneous composition of vocal sound, and how to experience and convey scatting in a way that complements the human experience instead of separates from it.
