Intermediate Special Effects Makeup: Scars and Burns
Expand your trauma makeup skills beyond basic injuries with an in-depth study of burns, scalds, and the lasting effects they leave behind. Designed for students who have completed Bruises, Cuts, and Scrapes or have a foundational understanding of trauma makeup, this intermediate-level course explores how different types of burns affect the skin and how to recreate them realistically through special effects makeup. Students will learn the science behind thermal injuries, including burns caused by fire, smoke, hot liquids, steam, chemicals, and heated surfaces. The course examines burn classifications, degrees of severity, and the healing process, allowing artists to create everything from mild irritation and blistering to severe tissue damage and long-term scarring. Special attention will be given to how skin thickness, elasticity, and location on the body influence the appearance of injuries. Participants will learn to adapt techniques for burns on the face, hands, joints, and other areas where anatomy significantly affects the final look. Through hands-on application and progressive layering techniques, students will create increasingly severe injuries while maintaining realism and anatomical accuracy.
