Materials Make Stories

In this fun class, children gather around the story circle and share their discoveries of various discarded objects and how the children (and the teacher) came to find/rescue/repurpose these objects, so that they could become part of our creative story world. We brainstorm descriptions of each object, using descriptive, humorous and poetic language. Then participants co-create stories using these materials as characters, props and settings. What results is a collective story that empowers children to see the creative potential of mundane or mysterious objects, and that empowers students to experiment and hone their craft of creative storytelling.
