Creating and keeping the character of your character is an important part of your story. Your readers expect your character to act a certian way and they expect that throughout your whole book. If the character, the morals, of your character change when they shouldn't, the readers will notice. They'll wonder where your character changed. You can confuse your readers and make them dislike your character, even worse, your story itself.
