Hello, I'm Emma.

EMMA is a French-Australian writer, composer, and performer creating experimental music‑theatre that brings together voice, text, movement, and composition. Her work begins with sustained research—scientific, social, and political—which she transforms into fictionalized, embodied performance. She is interested in how complex ideas can be translated into story, character, and live theatrical form. Her background combines jazz and classical voice training, musical theatre, experimental and improvised music, and physical theatre and devising at the Jacques Lecoq School. She studied with Meredith Monk and other leaders in experimental music. She also holds a master’s degree in political science, which informs her socially engaged, research‑based approach to making work. In her process, research, writing, and music evolve together, with each element shaping the others as a piece develops. Her projects have toured and been presented in prestigious festivals and venues in Europe, Australia, and New York. She collaborates widely and has been commissioned to write and compose for the Australian contemporary music ensemble Greywing and for renowned pianist Andy Emler for large‑scale projects, among others. As an educator, she teaches voice, improvisation, and musical theatre, creating spaces for experimentation and discovery. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Maestra, and the UNTITLED Musical Project. Emma was awarded the Fall 2025 Woodward Residency and the 2025/2026 Bechdel Project Space Grant in support of her work.
