Throughout their journey, guild members will complete 3 main quests: Quest 1: The Traveler - Guild members will create a fully realized fantasy protagonist built using shape language, custom color palettes, and character psychology. Quest 2: The Beast - Guild members will create an original mythical creature companion engineered using real-world animals’ biology, diet, archetypes, and habitats. Quest 3: The Chronicle - Guild members will create a cohesive 1-to-5-page comic tracking their duo's journey, utilizing the standard 3-Act narrative structure and comic layout tricks that keep the story clear and flowing. ________________________________________ There also will be 9 side quests! These are exercises where I will be drawing with them. ***Completion during the meeting is not required!*** 1. Guild members will use shape language to create 3 different characters based on a circle, a square, and a triangle. 2. Guild members will create a profile for their travelers using 1 archetype, 1 alignment, 3 positive personality traits, and 2 negative personality traits. 3. A game of “Who’s that character?” where guild members will guess different characters by their silhouette. (No one is required to know who any of them are this will just help them better understand what makes characters stand out as we talk about each character.) 4. Guild members will draw 2 silhouettes of their traveler. 5. A game of “Color Cast” where I show guild members a color and they will just say the first character that pops in their head. 6. Guild members will draw their traveler 2 times and then use color theory to create 4 color palettes (3 colors each), select their top 2, and use them to color each drawing of their travelers. 7. Guild members will draw their favorite animal, its dietary opposite, and 1 everyday object, then combine all 3 to create 1 unique fantasy creature. 8. Guild members will practice drawing their travelers and beasts from 3 different angles with 3 different facial expressions. 9. Guild members will create their own book covers that include their travelers and beasts. ________________________________________ Guild members will be taught 7 lessons: Lesson 1: Shape Language Guild members learn how to use basic shapes like circles, squares, and triangles to show a character's personality without words. They begin their first quest by coming up with a fantasy main character and sketching them out using these shapes. ________________________________________ Lesson 2: Intro to Quest 1 & Full Character Profile Guild members dive into storytelling basics, learning how to give their traveler a full profile: a core role, a moral code, and an overall personality to make them feel alive. They also learn about props and special abilities they could give their travelers. ________________________________________ Lesson 3: Silhouettes Guild members learn the importance of silhouettes in character design. They learn that a successful character design must be recognizable even when turned completely into a solid black shadow. They practice posing their drawings with enough space, so limbs don’t blend into a giant blob or detach and look like tangled yarn. ________________________________________ Lesson 4: Color Theory Guild members learn how to choose color palettes intentionally through basic color theory (temperature, contrast, primary colors, matching colors with vibes, etc). They will then be able to complete and officially work on their first quest and then share what they have at the next meeting. ________________________________________ Lesson 5: Quest 1 Show n’ Tell, Intro to Quest 2, & Beast Design Guild members will have a show and tell of the travelers they’ve created and then begin their second quest where they will be creating their own mythical beasts. To understand the kind of beast they want to create, they will look at real-world animals and how they survive to help them get to know their beasts’ biology, diet, and personalities. They will officially work on their second quest and then share what they have at the next meeting. ________________________________________ Lesson 6: Quest 2 Show n’ Tell, Intro to Quest 3, & Comic Anatomy Guild members will have a show and tell of the beasts they’ve created and then begin turning their drawings into a comic. They learn how to organize comic panels into a clear 3-act structure (beginning, middle, and end). They also learn comic layout tricks that keep the story flowing without confusing the reader. They will officially work on their third and final quest and then share what they have at the next meeting. ________________________________________ Lesson 7: Quest 3 Show n’ Tell, Book Cover Anatomy, & Thumbnails Guild members will have a show and tell of the comics they’ve created and then learn how to design a book cover by getting to know the anatomy of book covers and creating thumbnails.
